Today, July 22nd, marks 18 years since Alcorn Construction was founded with a simple but ambitious vision: to become an extension of each client's team by delivering exceptional service, trusted partnerships, and a construction experience built on relationships.
When Chris and Amy Alcorn launched the company in July 2008, the construction industry was facing one of the most challenging economic periods in history. Rather than waiting for the market to recover, they adapted. Working from the basement of their home, they embraced tenant improvement projects and focused on earning trust from one client at a time.
The years that followed were filled with milestones that shaped the company into what it is today. In 2009, the growing team celebrated its first holiday party at The Chophouse, a reminder that even in the early days, building a strong company culture mattered. By 2010, Alcorn hired its first full-time employee and moved out of the basement office, marking the beginning of steady expansion.
Growth accelerated in 2011 when Alcorn was awarded its first ground-up project, Gordon Composites, while also securing its first tenant finish project valued at more than $1 million. The momentum continued into 2012 as the company surpassed $10 million in annual revenue, proving that its relationship-first approach was resonating with clients.
By 2015, Alcorn welcomed its 20th employee and exceeded $30 million in annual revenue. As the company expanded, so did its commitment to culture. In 2017, Alcorn introduced The Alcorn Way, 26 behaviors that continue to guide how team members serve clients, support one another, and approach every project. Those principles have become the foundation of the company's reputation for building strong relationships and delivering excellence from concept to completion.
Another significant milestone came in 2022 when Alcorn expanded into the Arizona market. Opening a Phoenix office under the leadership of Jim Roland allowed the company to bring its relationship-driven approach to a second state while continuing to grow alongside long-term clients and partners.
This year marks another defining chapter in Alcorn's story. In 2026, founders Chris and Amy Alcorn completed a carefully planned majority ownership transition to President and CEO Derek Simpson. More than a change in ownership, the transition reflects years of intentional leadership development and reinforces the company's long-term vision. Derek has been leading Alcorn's day-to-day operations for years, making the transition a natural evolution rather than a change in direction.
Just as importantly, the transition preserves the culture and values that have defined Alcorn since day one. Chris and Amy remain actively connected to the business and its clients, while Derek and the leadership team continue to build on the same customer-first philosophy, people-centered culture, and commitment to partnership that have fueled the company's success for nearly two decades.
Today, Alcorn Construction has completed more than 600 projects and grown from a startup operating out of a basement into an award-winning, $100 million general contractor serving clients throughout Colorado and Arizona.
As Alcorn celebrates 18 years in business, the company remains focused on the future while staying grounded in the values that have guided every milestone along the way. None of this would have been possible without the dedication of our employees, the trust of our clients, and the support of our architects, trade partners, and communities. Thank you for being part of our journey. Building with the power of Partnership is what we do.
